An upright evergreen with a broadly pyramidal shape and furrowed gray bark. Has finely textured foliage and the Spring's new growth is a brilliant electric yellow and by the end of Summer the color mellows to a light green. Can be susceptible to winter windburn without protection, so a sheltered location is recommended. It grows best in acidic, well-drained average to dry soils and is intolerant of urban environments. Best used as a Specimen, accent, or in the rock garden.
