A slow growing deciduous tree with attractive burgundy foliage that gives way to scarlet in the Fall season. Has interesting red-black bark that is quite striking when contrasting against the stark winter landscapes. One of the hardiest of Japanese Maples with good sun tolerance. Provide slightly acidic, well-drained soil; shelter from drying winds and mulch to roots cool. Apply slow-release fertilizer in early spring and prune in the winter. Ideal as a small lawn tree, patios, entryways, container planting, firescaping, Urban, Asian, and Woodland garden.
