A deciduous shrub with an upright habit and large, fragrant red Summer flowers that continually bloom and re bloom throughout the Summer. The fragrance is an apple like scent, so it is an ideal planting for near an entry or outdoor living space. It has a glossy, green foliage and is adaptable to most moist, well-drained soils. The shrub thrives in the heat and humidity. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. Prune to shape after flowering. Ideal in a Border, Container, or Cutting garden. Long-lasting flowers hold well in arrangements and are great for dried potpourri. Leaves, seed pods and bark have a spicy scent when crushed as well. Native planting and Deer resistant.
