A moderate growing, deciduous, and compact-sized weeping specimen tree blooms clusters of lavender flowers in the Spring. The flowers progress to glossy burgundy and green heart shaped foliage that turns yellow in the Fall. A North American native that prefers slightly alkaline, moist, well-drained soils and can be drought tolerant. Apply a general purpose fertilizer before new growth emerges in late winter to early spring. if needed, prune immediately after blooming has ceased to remove any dead, dying, crowded or crossed branches. Pruning in winter is likely to cause bloom loss. Ideal in Fire-scaping Urban gardens, Woodland gardens, Cottage, and Rustic gardens.
