An Eastern North American herbaceous perennial native that is erect and clump forming. The perennial blooms vanilla-scented fragrant, mauve-pink flowers from June to September that attract butterflies, the flowers give way to attractive seed heads which persist well into winter. Prefers moist, fertile, soils which do not dry out. Cut plants to the ground in late winter. Deer tolerant. Ideal in massed, Border rears, cottage gardens, meadows, native plant gardens, wild/naturalized areas or water margins.
