A semi-woody perennial herb that prefers dry to medium well-drained soil with a light, sandy consistency and low fertility. Deep purple blooms sit atop gray-green leaves from June to August, the flowers are fragrant and make a great cut or dried flower. Lavender flowers and foliage are also popular additions to sachets and potpourris. Prune to shape in Spring after new leaves appear. Every 3-4 years cut back to 8" to control plant size and keep a robust healthy plant. Humidity can affect the health of the plant, in order to combat high humidity, consider using rock instead of organic mulch. English Lavender may appreciate a sheltered location and winter protection. Great in a border front, rock garden, herb garden or scented garden. Can be particularly effective when massed. Also effective as an edger or low hedge in some areas. Rabbit and Deer tolerant.
