Slow growing evergreen shrub with an upright habit. Blooms bright red flowers with black spots in Spring. Glossy, thick deep green elliptic leaves. Fertilize in Spring with acid-loving plant fertilizer. Adequate water is necessary throughout the growing season. moist well drained soil. Remove spent flowers after bloom. Can be pruned to shape during the summertime. Apply mulch around roots to protect during the wintertime. Protect with burlap the first winter until plant's roots are established. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Ideal as accent, border, or bed.
